Not too many of us just pick up a firearm and start shooting. If fact, we shouldn’t do that without instruction and guidance. With a proper focus on safety and building on the fundamentals, anyone can become a safe, confident, and effective handler of their firearm.
New to firearms or just wanting a basic re-start?
The worst way to introduce firearms to new shooters is to hand them a firearm they are not ready for and stand back and let them figure it out. If you start small and controlled and build the right foundations, shooting becomes a very enjoyable skill that can become a lifetime hobby or be developed into practical means of protection. Private, small ground or personal lessons available at your speed.

This class was excellent! The instructors presented very relevant material in a way that was easy to understand. They had an interactive powerpoint type presentation with video and graphics that was extremely helpful in making all the concepts, comparisons and information easy to understand and remember. They answered questions and gave individual attention to each of us to help us become better, more confident shooters. I would take any classes they offer in the future!

Do I need to own a firearm for training?
No! Depending on the class you select, firearms may be available for rent or demo. Our CCW class covers helping sort through and select the right firearm for your needs.
Can I take classes even though I don’t have experience?
Yes! A big part of the mission of CY Academy is to introduce new shooters to the safety principles and handling firearms for the first time. CCW class is a great place to start.
Is private training available?
Yes, let me know what kind of training you are looking for and we can put together a lesson or training curriculum for your needs.
What is included with CCW training?
This is a state required 8 hour class. We cover handgun basics, situational awareness, conflict avoidance, de-escalation, the 5 elements of self defense, how to navigate the law after a defensive shooting encounter and so much more.
Why Should I get my Concealed Carry Permit when Missouri and Kansas are Both Permitless Carry States?
#1 It is true you do not need to permit to concealed carry in these states, but there are specific places you may carry that those without a permit are restricted.
#2 Reciprocity: With your MO or KS issued permit you will be able to concealed carry in other states that recognize these state permits.
#3 Education: You’ll gain important knowledge taking these classes. Additionally you will build your “resume” as a responsibly armed American and protector.
Is there training I can do without going to the range?
Yes! Many handling, presentation and even dry fire (no ammo) can be done at home to help build muscle memory. Remember to go slow at first. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast. BE SURE there is no ammo present or even in the room. See the link to the USCCA here for some specific drills.
